The inaugural State of the Child was a community-driven event dedicated to strengthening early childhood care and education in Chatham County. Attendees gathered over breakfast for meaningful conversations, reflecting on the progress of the Chatham Kids Matter Early Childhood Action Plan (ECAP) and exploring collaborative next steps to better support young children and their families.
The ECAP is a comprehensive, community-informed blueprint guiding coordinated efforts across Chatham’s early childhood system. Grounded in the findings of the Early Childhood Community Needs Assessment and a Fiscal Analysis, the ECAP incorporates the voices of over 450 local parents, caregivers, child care providers, and community leaders. It outlines strategic priorities and data-supported recommendations to address the most pressing needs in early childhood.
State of the Child created a space for cross-sector dialogue, idea sharing, and renewed commitment to collective action. From parents to providers, partners to policymakers, every voice contributed to the shared vision of a stronger future for Chatham County’s youngest residents.
We look forward to building on this momentum and making State of the Child a continued opportunity for collaboration, accountability, and community leadership in early childhood.
