How is it going?
Child Care Search continues to serve as a vital access point for families seeking child care and early childhood education, with ongoing demand for guidance and financial assistance. Families frequently reach out for help navigating available options, highlighting the continued need for affordable child care. The program’s referral process has been particularly effective, allowing staff to provide tailored recommendations based on family needs and eligibility, supported by strong relationships with local partners. However, locating available and affordable care remains challenging—especially for infants, toddlers, nontraditional hours, and families facing financial constraints and long waitlists.
Successes
This year Child Care Search switched to a new database called Upfront, which has a parent search site called Find Child Care NC. We have found that Find Child Care NC is much easier for parents to use than the previous system. Parents can find the site through general child care web search and the interface is simpler to navigate, only requiring a child’s age and the county they live in to get started. Since Upfront launched on the Find Child Care NC website, online child care searches in Chatham have increased significantly. This has helped reduce barriers and made it easier for families to begin their child care search. Our referral specialists are still on hand to talk to parents, however this online search tool helps us serve parents who are reluctant to call us.
