How is it going?
The 2025–2026 program year has started with some challenges due to the government shutdown, which has slowed reimbursement funds for participating facilities. Despite this, the CACFP Program continues to grow through strong word-of-mouth outreach, and so far this fiscal year three new sites are in the process of being added. One of the more significant challenges has been maintaining and expanding home-based facilities, as DCDEE has made the licensing process more difficult. Additionally, many providers are aging out of the field and are no longer interested in continuing to provide childcare.
Successes
All pertinent employees for the program became certified as either a CACFP Management Professional or Child Care Nutrition Professional this year due to attending the yearly CACFP conference!
