Container Gardening in Child Care
May 23, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
FreeCome learn the basics of container gardening with two of Chatham County’s Master Gardeners! Gardening in child care provides a fun and educational opportunity for your children, staff and parents. Children are more likely to eat vegetables that they help to grow, water and harvest. Gardening in child care is a “best practice” in early childhood education that promotes outdoor learning and healthy eating. Gardening is easily achieved when you use containers. Each child care facility that is represented will make and take home two plant containers, one will have a cherry tomato plant and the other will have a sweet bell pepper plant. This course is for child care owners, directors or other staff at centers or who want to garden in child care. The containers that are provided are meant to be placed at your child care facility, not taken home (unless you are a family home provider!) Please come wearing comfortable clothing and shoes. Please bring gardening gloves if you have them; latex gloves will be provided if you don’t have gardening gloves.
