KIDSCOPE provides screening and support to children birth to five whose childcare providers have concerns about their development, behavior, or ability to succeed in the classroom. Consultants provide support based on the needs of individual children and work with childcare providers and families to create success strategies in the classroom. Services are provided free of charge and do not require a diagnosis. Provides evidence-based therapies for families with children birth to five, focusing on improving the caregiver-child relationship and increasing children’s positive behaviors. Parents are actively involved in the program and gain an understanding of their child’s behaviors and how to address them in a developmentally appropriate manner.
Mental Health Consultation
KidSCope offers free screening and support to children between the ages of birth and 5 years old, whose development, behavior, or ability to succeed in the classroom are a concern to their childcare providers. The program’s consultants provide tailored support to each child, working with their families and childcare providers to develop strategies for success in the classroom. A diagnosis is not required to access these services.
Mental Health Services
KidSCope offers evidence-based therapies for families with young children from birth to 5 years old. The focus of these therapies is to improve the relationship between caregivers and children, as well as to encourage positive behavior in children. Parents are actively involved in the program, providing them with an understanding of their child’s behavior and how to address them in a developmentally appropriate way. Services include a customized evaluation, early intervention, and individual counseling and education for families, including Parent-Child Interactive Therapy (PCIT) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT) to help families.
Parent Education Support
The evidence-based Incredible Years Parent Training Program is a free evidence-based program for parents of children aged 3-6 years. Parents learn skills to promote children’s social competence and school readiness and to reduce behavior problems. Offered in English and Spanish, classes focus on play and positive involvement with children, praise and rewards, effective limit setting, and non-violent discipline practices.
Assuring Better Child Health and Development (ABCD)
ABCD offers primary care medical practices with medical provider education and technical assistance to enhance the quality of developmental screening services. ABCD provides free consultation, information, and materials about early intervention services, developmental screening, parent education resources, and early learning resources for children aged from birth to five years and their families.
Inclusive Child Care Programs
These programs offer early childhood education throughout the year for children ranging from birth to five years of age in Chapel Hill and Siler City. They follow an inclusive model, catering to both typically developing children and those with or at risk of developmental disabilities and/or disabilities. The programs provide a variety of services, including educational and developmental activities, parent education, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, as well as before and after-school care. Additionally, both centers have Five Star Child Care Licenses from the North Carolina Division of Child Development and maintain a teacher-child ratio of 1:6 in each class. They also participate in the NCPreK program.
