Starting a Child Care Program

Note: More info coming soon.

The Partnership can help individuals interested in starting a child care program in Chatham County to answer questions such as:

  • Will I need to get a child care license?
  • Where is child care needed in Chatham County?
  • What resources are available to help me?

A Family Child Care Home is a licensed facility in the child care provider’s home, serving no more than 5 children under age 5 and 3 school-age children at one time. A Child Care Center is a facility serving more than 12 children, not located in a residence. It must also meet additional requirements from the Division of Child Development and Early Education and building, fire, and environmental health regulations.

For those who wish to start a Family Child Care Home in Chatham County, the Partnership can provide on-one-one training about the licensing process and regulations, including assistance on-site at your home to help you prepare for the initial licensing visit. Contact Pam Anderson at 919-542-7449 ext. 117 or pam@chathamkids.org for assistance.

Those who wish to start a Child Care Center in NC should contact the Division of Child Development & Early Education to get started.

If you want to start a child care program in another county in NC, assistance may be available from your local Child Care Resource & Referral Agency.
